John Skipworth

Plain and Simple

Congruency

No that is not like currency but it could add currency to your bank account or at least peace and happiness to your life. I want to start off with a story to get you thinking in the right direction.

I want you to visualize for a moment being at a big circus. There is a man, let’s call him John, forty feet in the air on a small cable extended from one side of the tent to the other. The announcer asks you to focus your attention on John. As the spotlight shines toward John, the announcer asks,”How many of you think John can make it to the other side with no problem?” Immediately, all hands in the audience go up. John goes walking across the rope and back with no problem. John then reaches overs and gets a wheel barrow and places the wheel on the rope. The announcer asks,”How many think John can walk across the rope pushing the wheel barrow?” Most of the hands in the audience go up. The announcer then asks,”Who wants the first ride?” On that note every hand goes down.

What just happened in our story? Everyone said they believed that John could walk across the rope pushing the wheel barrow but no one wanted to ride. What happened? Their statement of belief (that John could walk cross the rope with the wheel barrow) wasn’t congruent (in agreement) with what they actually believed.

Today I would like for you to look at what you value and what you say you believe. Make a list of what you value or what you believe. Then rank them in their priority. Now look at your daily actions. Are your actions in congruent (in agreement) with what you say you value and what you say is important to you?

The more congruent you become to more everything and everyone in your life will benefit. Those who leave lasting legacies are more fully congruent. Don’t be discouraged if you do the exercise and realize that none or very few of your actions are congruent with your values and beliefs. If this is the case take a few extra minutes to focus your attention on what you value most. Then make a list of things you can do to make your actions congruent with that belief or value. Work on one thing at a time until all of your actions are congruent with all of your values and beliefs.

The sweet spot in life is the place where your values and beliefs are congruent with your daily actions. Do you value service? Are you serving others? Do you value love? Are you loving? My challenge for you today is to align your beliefs and values with your actions, to put feet to your beliefs and values. Don’t just talk about it! Go out and do it!

I hope this has given you some food for thought and a place to start creating the best life possible … plain and simple.

Next weeks topic will be connection. In the words of John Maxwell,”Everyone communicates, few connect.” In my next post we will look at how we can become not better communicators but better connectors. How we can connect with others and make a difference in our world one connection at a time … plan and simple.

Updated and Refocused

I haven’t been on here in quite some time so it took me awhile to figure out how to get this done.  I have cleaned things up and refocused my blog to match my goals.  I will begin adding a weekly post so check back often or better still, click the follow button, enter your email address, and you will be notified every time I post something new.

Thanks for reading.

Kitchen remodelling

Well, I am one step closer to getting the kitchen cabinets completed.  Guess I better get busy since I promised Leslie that I would install them on memorial day weekend.

Back

Well, I am back to try this again. Not sure what will be on here but will keep you posted.
